Let’s go for a Coney

What’s a “Coney”, I said?  It seems most people here know that a “Coney” is a grilled, natural casing hot dog in a bun, topped with Chili, diced onion and mustard. There are hundreds of Coney Island restaurants here in…

Oscar arrived at my daughter’s house one afternoon. He plopped down in the middle of the driveway.  Resting on his back with feet relaxed and in the air, he did not plan to go anywhere. At this time, she had…

The Local Laundromat

One afternoon, Marci and I walked to the neighborhood laundromat. It was a small, efficient, clean and organized place of business. The washing machines were a bit smaller than what we are used to using in the U.S.A. The dryers…

Rain Barrels and Chains

This summer Michelle decided we needed rain barrels for our backyard. They are actually empty wood whiskey barrels that weigh about 125 pounds each. They come from Kentucky and were used to make some fine Kentucky bourbon at one time. She’s…

About Sharon

I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. I spent most of my life there raising a family, owning a business and being involved with the community.

Now a senior citizen, I live with my daughter, Michelle and her husband, George in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. Just before coming to Dearborn, I had the chance to live with my daughter, Marci and her husband, Akira for almost a year in Hachioji, Tokyo, Japan. I have a bonus daughter too, Mikaela who lives in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I am blessed to have these women as daughters and these men as sons-in-law, my teachers one and all.

I begin writing six years ago as a way to keep in touch with friends and family while I was living in Japan. This led to contributing to a book and now I am working on a memoir.
